Open calls

Funding under this procedure is solely in support of non-economic scientific activities for basic research aimed at acquiring new knowledge. These non-economic activities are aligned with national strategic documents for research development and the National Strategy for Development of Scientific Research in the Republic of Bulgaria 2017–2030, contributing to:

Sustainable recovery of the country's international standing in terms of the quantity and quality of internationally visible scientific output.

Increasing the quantity and quality of basic research related to issues of regional and national significance.

Significant intensification of the links between science and education, business, government authorities, and society as a whole.

Expanding the participation of the Bulgarian scientific community in the European Research Area and broadening international scientific cooperation.

The objective of the procedure is to encourage the conduct of high-quality basic research and the achievement of excellence, as well as high-quality oriented basic research linked to the current societal challenges defined in the National Strategy. The scientific fields in which research will be funded, as determined by the decision of the Executive Board of the Bulgarian National Science Fund (BNSF), are:

Biological Sciences;

Mathematical Sciences and Informatics;

Medical Sciences;

Earth Sciences;

Social Sciences;

Agricultural Sciences;

Engineering and Technical Sciences;

Physical Sciences;

Chemical Sciences;

Humanities.
