Afforestation has beneficial effects on soils, water, air and biodiversity. That is why the Strategy for the Forestry and Rural Development foresees a measure for afforestation with local tree species on abandoned agricultural lands, forest territories, eroded and erosion-threatened territories outside the forest territories, creation/restoration of field protection forest belts. The main objective of the measure is to increase the forest cover and the territory of the forests in the Kostinbrod - Svoge MIG by conducting afforestation measures, protecting the soil from erosion, preventing fires and protecting biological diversity.
